Duplexity: a Glance at the Relationship Existing Between the O.T.O. and the A∴A∴
In this presentation Brother AISh MLChMH will be discussing concepts related to the Word “Duplex” which Aleister Crowley received on the Vernal Equinox of 1915 and described as “pertaining to the mystic marriage of A∴A∴ and O.T.O.” Some of the questions to be addressed are: What are the O.T.O. and A∴A∴ exactly? Are there similarities between both Orders? What are some differences between both Orders? Are the O.T.O. and A∴A∴ connected? How so?
From Eternity to Eternity: The Magical Circle within Thelema
This presentation will consider the magical circle with particular reference to the writings of Aleister Crowley. We will examine the appearance of the magical circle at the dawn of civilization and it’s use as a means of defense from hostile forces. Additionally, we will consider how this function was conveyed in systems such as Abramelin, the Lesser and Greater Keys, and the Grimorie of Honorius. Moreover, we will analyze interpretations by Cornelius Agrippa, William Stirling and Eliphas Levi. Rooted in tradition, we will also explore Crowley’s initiated interpretation of this weapon, with a singular analysis of the magical circle put forth in Book IV.
From Gold Forge Steel: A Brief Analysis of the Symbolism in Liber XV, The Gnostic Mass
This presentation will examine The Gnostic Mass in the light of the writings of Aleister Crowley, through the curcubite of one individual’s research and experience. Each of the eight sections of the ritual will be addressed in turn, with an emphasis on symbolic correlations and allusions. Topics include, but are not limited to: an an analysis of the Furnishings of the Temple and the Tree of Life; the God celebrated in The Gnostic Mass; parallels between The Gnostic Mass and “The Grimorie which Baphomet …himself made,” “The Supreme Ritual” and “The Invocation of Horus”; The Children of the Prophet; The Garden of Eden Before and After the Fall – Levi’s “Mysteries of the Qabalah”; the three enthusiasms; the role of reversal; The Perfected Egyptian; and the Messiah within The Gnostic Mass.
Glory unto the Scarlet Woman
We will consider possible precursors to the Mother of Abominations, Her origins, and will touch upon modern devotional approaches to Her. In particular, we will attempt to consider Her by the light of the Holy Books of Thelema. Additionally, we will delve into the Prophet’s writings, particularly The Gnostic Mass, and reflect upon the seminal role the Scarlet Woman played in the Beast’s own progressive initiation.
Our Lord and Father the Sun: Liber Resh and the O.T.O.
We will analyze the text of Liber Resh vel Helios (an official ritual of A∴A∴) in some detail, considering a number of ancillary documents, including the Temple of Solomon the King, the Cairo Working, Qabalah, and the Egyptian Book of the Dead along the way. We will then consider Liber Resh within the context of the O.T.O., including specific instructions from the Prophet to Hymenaeus Alpha. Additionally, we will reflect upon how “the Book of the Sun” connects to the solar current running through The Gnostic Mass.
Rituals of the Elements and Feasts of the Times within the O.T.O.
During every celebration of the E.G.C.’s central ritual, The Deacon gives “a list of rituals and feasts” from The Book of the Law (Chap. II 34-43). What are these rituals and feasts exactly, and what is our religious Order’s relationship to them? This presentation will carefully consider the commentaries by Aleister Crowley that touch upon the rituals and feasts listed in Liber AL. We will then consider the “Thelemic Calendar” in the context of O.T.O. U.S.A., referencing in particular the customs outlined in the Camp, Oasis, and Lodge Master’s Handbook. Lastly, special emphasis will be placed on ideas for effectively implementing our celebrations at a local body level.
Symbolic Analysis of the M.O.E. Degrees
The Alpha & Omega of Initiation: Aleister Crowley, Charles Stansfeld Jones and the Way of Duplexity
On the heels of the remarkable 1914 Paris Working and its goal of reconstituting the Order of the Temple in the form of the O.T.O., in the U.S., Aleister Crowley received ‘Duplex’ as the Word of the Equinox in 1915. Crowley interpreted this word as the mystic marriage of the Orders A∴A∴ and O.T.O. We suggest that this mystic marriage typifies Crowley’s U.S. period, and in particular his work with Charles Stansfeld Jones, Crowley’s attainment to the Grade of Magus, the development of the O.T.O. and it’s central ritual – The Gnostic Mass, and the publication of the visionary 1919 Blue Equinox in Detroit. This presentation will draw upon both published and unpublished archival correspondence and documents from the O.T.O. archives.
The Labor of the Preparation: Crowley’s 21 Year Effort to Obtain The Comment
The Book of the Law is the cornerstone of the religious system of Thelema (the Greek word for “Will”). Communicated in Cairo Egypt by a Præterhuman Intelligence to the English magician, mystic and prophet Aleister Crowley in 1904 of the vulgar era (e.v.), this book prophesized that Crowley would eventually receive a comment to that text: “40. But the work of the comment? That is easy; and Hadit burning in thy heart shall make swift and secure thy pen.” For over twenty years Crowley struggled to interpret and fulfill the injunctions described in Liber AL regarding the comment. This discussion will address those efforts in some detail, and analyze their culmination in The Comment.
